Overview
It is recommended to start the tour with a visit to the Blue Cave to avoid crowds during the peak season and to fully enjoy the stunning blue hues the cave offers.
Next, we can fish and swim at one of the hidden beaches or coves that we will suggest. After that, we take in a panoramic view of Mamula Island, which is home to a fort built in 1853 by Austro-Hungarian General Lazar Mamula.
During World War II, from May 30, 1942, onward, Benito Mussolini's fascist forces converted Mamula Fort into a concentration camp, notorious for the torture and cruelty inflicted on prisoners, most of whom came from the surrounding areas. Unfortunately, the fort has since been transformed into a luxury resort featuring a hotel, restaurant, swimming pools, and a beach.
If desired, we can stop at one of two beaches, Žanjice or Dobreč, both teeming with marine life, including fish and starfish. If you're lucky, you may even spot a seahorse.
Nearby is Rose, a small village offering a beautiful view of Herceg Novi, which lies directly across the bay. Rose is the oldest fishing village in Boka Bay.
Finally, we visit the submarine tunnels built by the Yugoslav Army. The outer opening is designed and covered with fake rocks to make it invisible to satellites and spy planes. The tunnel is approximately 100 meters long and 10 meters deep.
